Tom Hogarty of Adobe announced tonight that in the next Lightroom 6 “dot” release (i.e. 6.3 & CC 2015.3), they will revert back to the old import dialog. The streamlined import process introduced in 6.2 suffered from stability issues, and drew consternation from Lightroom users (including myself) upset about many features that were removed. Timing of the 6.3 release is still to be determined.
Tom went on to say that they “will continue to investigate ways to improve the ease of use of our photography products and will do so via an open dialog, with both existing and new customers.” I am hopeful that with this open dialog, Lightroom will continue to evolve with the needs of both new and experienced users in mind. While it has been a rough couple of weeks for the Adobe team and for the Lightroom user community, I very much appreciate that we have had nine years of great product updates and improvements from the Lightroom team.
If you want to revert back to the old import process now, you can roll back to Lightroom 6.1.1.
If you hadn’t heard about the new process introduced in 6.2, you can read about it here.

great news. shame Adobe didnt bother listening to current users in the first place, but better late than never.
That is good news ! Established compagnies like Adobe should be listening more carefully to their user base prior to major changes ! I will wait for update 6.3 now.
Laura, I just want to thank you and tell you what a good job you have done covering the Lightroom 6.2 / CC 2015.2 update disaster. You have been fast accurate and fair in your reporting. Keep up the good work. I am cautiously waiting to see how Adobe proceeds in the future and I am encouraged by what Tom Hogarty has “said” and hope this leads a better Lightroom in the future. I think it is such a shame that an already fantastic tool like Dehaze was vastly improved by adding it to the three local adjustments.
This is great news! I love the import dialog as it was. It’s not that complicated, so dumbing it down did almost everyone a disservice. Thanks Laura for keeping us posted and no doubt for using your influence with Adobe to straighten this out!
I just bought and downloaded LR6. It’s version 6.0. Should I wait for 6.3 before upgrading ?
When I do upgrade will 6.3 include the updates from 6.1, or do I have to update 6.1 first?
Thank you for your help..
PD Love your site.
Alfredo, you can update to 6.1.1 by downloading the 6.1.1 patch from this article. If you have the CC version, this will give you the Dehaze feature in the Effects panel. If not, you’ll get some bug fixes. That said, there’s nothing wrong with just waiting for 6.3 – you won’t have to update to 6.1.1 first.
Thank you Laura, I’m all set. Downloaded the 6.1.1 patch and installed it; waiting for 6.3.
Adios
That’s great news….whilst we can all understand the need to bring on board new users and try and make things easier, the “dumbing down” of the import routine was one step too far and it will be good to see the old routine back. Good on Adobe to listen to their established users, albeit a little too late maybe …but one thing to look towards
PS: forgot to add….
Maybe Adobe will listen to the wide user base out there and scrap the forcing of everyone to take on board the Cloud version also!
Here’s hoping! but very much doubt it…as its too much of a cash cow
Bring back the Eject After Download also. Not a good idea to get rid of that.
Anyone can make a mistake.
Good to hear that Adobe listened.
Apple could probably learn from their example.
That’s great news. The new import style maybe be good for some so it would be fine to keep it as an option but the old method certainly worked a lot better for me. I hope it returns very soon.
