Adobe released Lightroom 6.5 and CC 2015.5 today. This is a free update to 6 and CC and includes the normal bug fixes, new camera support and new lens profiles. There are no new features in this update, but some of the bug fixes below can be interpreted as improvements. Classifying them as bug fixes allows them to be included in 6.5 for non-subscribers.
To update, in Lightroom if not prompted to update, go to Help>Updates. Creative Cloud subscribers can also update through the Creative Cloud app (click on Update next to Lightroom on the Apps tab – if the update isn’t available, try clicking on the gear symbol and logging out of the app and back in). If you are updating today (March 16) and the update isn’t yet available, you can download the update directly here: Mac Windows. Double-click on the downloaded file to run the update.
Bug Fixes
- Bug fixes related to Panorama Merge
- If you have sensor dust spots on your images, you can now fix those on your first image (the active image in your selection to merge) and your fixes will be copied to the remaining images as the panorama merge is performed. Note that these fixes will be baked into the result – you will not be able to adjust them after the merge.
- Boundary Warp bugs fixed, resulting in improvements to the results
- Removed the ‘Auto’ projection option, since it always chose spherical
- Import
- Rename failed if raw+JPEG pairs were copied to a second location
- The tethering toolbar wouldn’t move.
- Other
- Many sync errors were fixed. Faster sync to Lightroom iOS and Android apps.
-
- Library: scrolling through images in Loupe view with your mouse is back.
- The video cache was not correctly limited to the size set in Preferences
- Slideshow module: slideshows are back in high-resolution. Fixed a bug that caused them to appear much lower res than expected.
- Book module: reinstated scroll bars so that you can browse your book faster
- Export: Fixed the issue of Droplets not working properly as Export Actions.

Thank you Laura, for your accurate information and so much more, for your expertise.
You’re welcome, Erwin!
I am somewhat reluctant to write this but I feel the need to communicate my thoughts to you. I am a retired senior citizen who after years working in an educational setting decided to take up photography. I purchased your Lightroom CC video. For some reason I have had difficulty with the initial section, i.e., the import phase. I am never sure that I am importing successfully to my external hard drive. Oddly enough, the Develop section comes much more easily for me. Even at age 82 I am still determined to continue learning. To continue: because of my import problem I am therefore not sure that I am successfully retrieving the photo to work in the Develop section. I appreciate any comments you may have on my dilemma.
P.S. I recently watched your live presentation webinar. Thank you sharing.
Hi Harry,
I believe that Develop comes easier for almost everyone – it’s organization and file management that is the difficult part of Lightroom, so you are not alone in your struggles. In my records I see that you downloaded the free “Learn Lightroom CC New Features” series. This just covers what’s new in Lightroom CC/6, doesn’t cover the fundamentals of the program and assumes you already know them. I would highly recommend my Lightroom CC/6 and 5: The Fundamentals & Beyond video series, which covers importing, organization and file management in depth (as well as Develop and Map.) To import successfully to your external hard drive, you will have to choose it in the Destination panel in the Import dialog. Watch my video in that series on importing from memory cards for more on how to set this up. Once you have imported, actually being able to verify that you have imported to where you intended to requires that you reveal your folder structure in the Folders panel in the Library module, i.e. showing parent folders. I believe this is discussed in the same Import video, as well as in the File and Folder Management video in the same series.
I hope this helps! Don’t give up!
Hi Laura,
I have a stand alone Lightroom 6.4 version on my pc and don’t have or couldn’t find the new “dehaze” feature. Any thoughts or some guide how to acquire this feature. Much appreciated.
Thanks.
Ceasar
Hi Ceasar,
Dehaze is not available in Lightroom 6, only in the Creative Cloud subscription. You can download Dehaze presets from third parties that will work in 6 – Google “Dehaze presets.”
I had a note on my calendar to watch your video today but couldn’t find it. Sorry. I really wanted to watch this one.
Hi Steve,
The webinar was on March 5, and the recording was available for about a week after that. I will repeat the topic, most likely over the summer. If it’s any consolation, I didn’t cover anything in the webinar that I don’t cover in more depth in my Lightroom CC/6 and 5: The Fundamentals & Beyond video series.
[…] What’s New in Lightroom CC 2015.5 and 6.5 […]
I do not know exactly what happened, i upgraded to 6.5 few days ago, only to find that this version is
E X T R E M L Y S L O W W W W in import, I mean it just takes forever, importing 100 NEF 6000×4000 photos is now running for more than 2 hours.
Does any of you folks feel the same?
I run this over 480 GB SSD, standalone fresh install from V6.11, the other parts feel a little more sluggish as opposed to 6.4 or 6.3 but this thing is a real deal breaker.
Hi Boaz, perhaps someone will chime in here, but I’d recommend posting on the Adobe Lightroom forum or lightroomforums.net for suggestions since there are more people with expertise in this over there.
I notice recently when I make adjustments such exposure a proof copy is created. This appears to be a virtual copy. In the past I had to manually create that. This started after upgrade to 6.5
Monroe, turn off soft proofing in the toolbar below the image (or with the shortcut S.)
Laura
Thanks
Not sure what happened with my first post, but I’ll post it again just in case:
I’m trying to upgrade from a stand-alone Lightroom 6.4 to version 5 on a Mac. When I select Help then Updates. I get a LRCC sign in window and cannot find anything pertaining to the stand-alone version upgrade. Do you know what’s wrong (I’ve had this problem before), and could you please send me a link to download the upgrade to LR5? Thanks so much for your help!
Hi Judy,
Comments don’t go live automatically – I have to moderate them in order to avoid spam. I unfortunately don’t know the answer to your question – I’d suggest posting on lightroomforums.net or on the Adobe Lightroom forum. You’ll find Mac and Windows links to download the 6.5 update in this blog post.
