Adobe announced this morning the availability of an update for both the standalone Lightroom 6 software, and the Creative Cloud (CC) subscription. The update includes support for new cameras, bug fixes and lens profiles. It does not include any new features. To update, if Lightroom doesn’t prompt you to update when you open it, go to Help>Updates… The Adobe Application manager will download and install the update. Creative Cloud subscribers can also use the Creative Cloud application to update.

Bug Fixes
- Unable to merge files to HDR. Please note that this only occurred with DNG files taken with a Leica Monochrom camera.
- Enterprise customers were unable to access functionality only available in the Creative Cloud version of Lightroom, such as Dehaze.
- People keywords export when they shouldn’t if “Write Keywords as Lightroom Hierarchy” is selected.
- Preview generation and export was slower in LrCC/Lr6 than Lr5.
- Customers reported that they could not exit full screen after invoking it while spot heal tool is selected.
- D810 NEF Files could not select Adobe Standard Profile.
- Size adjustment bar moving when clicked but the value listed was not updating accordingly.
- Metadata Export setting not working for Track, Square and Grid galleries in the Web Module.
- Collection name changes were not properly reflected in other Lightroom clients (such as mobile or web). This only impacted collections enabled for sync.
- Incorrect metadata timestamp in a Panorama created in Lr.
- Some files in exported batch are Blank with Watermark only.
- Lr was not properly exporting all photos. Please note that this typically only occurred when the customer was running Bridge at the same time as the export.
- Customers reported seeing a “Waiting for connection” message inside Lightroom when Internet is available.
- User reports photos are lost when moving them from one drive to another drive within Lightroom. Please note that this only occurred intermittently on Mac.

Hopefully 6.1.1 includes some of cool CC stuff like the DeHaze slider. Would be nice to see the two products get back to parity.
It does not, Nate. They will not go back to parity until Lightroom 7 (if there is one.)
That’s quite disappointing.
I still cannot justify the CC subscription since it triples the cost of LR for me (since I don’t use the other Adobe apps, I spend about $70 every two years on a LR upgrade versus $240 over the same time period for CC).
But clearly I missed the fine print that CC would get new features and LR dot releases would not contain them!
Nate, try Prolost webside for alternative to the dehaze filter. I have downloaded a set of presets that work a treat but you need the latest updates to LR6 for them to work.
Regards
I understand your feelings. Adobe has forgotten that they built a company on the backs of those of us who for years regularly updated our versions of Photoshop and LR.
I think Lightroom perpetual license users should be prepared to be dumped by Adobe even though they told us they had no plans to institute a subscription only policy.
Recently I had issues attempting to update my LR to the latest version. Not only on my home computer but on my office machine as well. After 30 days of waiting for a reply from Adobe after posting a request for help on their support portal, here is the response from them:
Hi,
We would like to inform you that Lightroom 6 is only supported for Download and install on chat and any issue related to update you need to check it on forums.adobe.com as this issue is only supported on forums.
Thank you
Adobe
Needless to say I am actively working on replacing my dependence on LR and Adobe products. I’m leaning towards Phase One. Forewarned is forearmed.
Happy shooting
That’s strange. You are saying you bought a product from Adobe and their support solution was to ask other users for help on their forum? Or that they have support staff in the forums, who could help you?
Either way, I am inclined to agree that understanding how to not be locked in to Lightroom is useful. So far, I am just making sure my options are open, by keeping all my edits up to date not just in the catalog but also in the XMP files. That way, I can “instantly” be up and running in an alternate app, with all my edits, at any time.
I create XMP sidecar files automatically (Windows go to Edit > Catalog Settings; Mac go to Lightroom > Catalog Settings). Choose the “Metadata” tab and tick “Automatically Write changes to XMP”. There is a tiny increase in storage needed (and by tiny I mean perhaps a .01% increase though I haven’t actually measured it) and a slight increase is time saving out changes (I guess; I cannot tell any difference). But the security is worth it, imo.
Nate: the reply I quoted is exactly as I received it 30 days after their chat tech at Adobe opened a Support Portal case for me. I have yet to be able to solve the issue downloading updates from Adobe. I continue to get server unavailable messages. This happens at home and at the office where I use a different ISP.
I did get a tremendous amount of help researching the issue from a fellow on a support forum (not and Adobe staffer). We spent several evenings back and forth looking for issues. Interestingly I only have download issues with Adobe. I just attempted to update LR 6.1 to the new and ?improved? 6.1.1 only to be told “try again later server unavailable”. I found another site that allows direct downloading of patches and got my update there.
Thanks for the XMP tip. I hadn’t know about that and will implement that immediately.
Regards
I couldn’t agree more Doug. Adobe have forgotten those of us who have been faithful to the company for years. It has become more about dollars and less about the customer……Industrial suicide in my opinion.
Nate, you’ve really answered your own question. If Adobe can get $70 from one customer and $240 from another, which customer will they favor and cater to? Adobe is no different than any other business, they stay in business if they make a profit and profit comes from revenue. Customer appreciation rarely enters into things. Adobe does a couple of things really well. One, they make excellent products, better than the competition. Two, they have a decent customer service program.
As much as we “little” guys hate to admit it, Adobe doesn’t really care much about us. And why should they?
I would love to see a subscription plan for $5/mo for LR only. LR is a great program and keeps getting better all the time and I am trying faithfully to wean myself from any dependence on PS. I’m 90% successful!
The subscription plan is here to say. We all must recognize that. We either accept it or move on to something different. I used Capture One (Phase One) for years but don’t think now I could go back to it.
Bruce Ward
What you say is true, of course, yet IF the pricing begins to turn people away and the overall amount of revenue is impacted, I suspect pricing will get back in line.
Capture One has recently added catalog functionality, and can import edit information from sidecar files, so I will probably test that as an alternative, if subscription at 3x the price of a license becomes the only option from Adobe.
I was a user of Raw Shooter then Adobe came along and purchased the company, since that day I have purchased every update up to 5.7,I have decided not to go to 6 because of the way Adobe are trying to force us into the CC model and the thanks you receive for being a loyal customer, that they will not give you the full updates in 6, dehaze,to me it is just blackmail.
If they want us to join the subscription band wagon, why not just set a subscription price for Lightroom on its own,I have no use for Photoshop whatever.
Syd.
Thank you for this perspective. I agree with your thinking. Seems like adobe is ignoring a revenue source and source of good will
Agree totally with you, never had PS and only used PSE and that is version 8!!!. According to some Adobe guru’s defending Adobe stance is that they say LR6 users are getting the software cheaper then their CC customers. which is a complete lie as they are also paying for PS and you are right I will only join CC if Adobe charge only for Lightroom.
Re Dehaze filter, check my reply to nate for a workaround using the free download from Prolost.
Regards
I’m with you 100% on this Syd. I now use Lightroom for my basic adjustments and then take everything into my onOne Perfect photo suite for the balance.
If Adobe keep heading in their current direction, I may have to consider giving them the flick altogether. It is a foolish move to upset customers in place of the mighty dollar.
Received the long awaited update to Lightroom that supposedly fixed the LR Mobile issue the first update created for some users. I see no difference…….why, oh why, did I ever buy into CC? Photosmith works……Lightroom Mobile not so much.
May have been my own stupidity. I went back to the Identity Plate and turned on syncing there and now at least I have the option to create a collection and tell it to sync. Shame on me for not investigating more before I vented.
This release should fix several of my major issues – but my Lightroom installation “About” says I am running 5.1 (not 5.1.1) and my both Lightroom Check for Updates and the Creative Cloud app says I am up to date. So either I’m updated and don’t know it, or I can’t update?
Do you really mean 2015.1.1, Carol, or are you using Lightroom 5? Assuming the former, try signing out of the Creative Cloud app and signing in again. You’ll find it under the Settings (sprocket wheel) icon.
Hi Laura. I too was not able to update Lightroom CC 2015.1 to the latest version via the Creative Cloud app. I signed out and in again. I signed out, quit the app, restarted it and signed back in and it was still representing Lightroom CC 2015.1 as being up to date and not offering the update. Photoshop CC 2015 updated fine. I finally found a patch on adobe’s site to download the update directly rather than go through the cloud. Not sure that was the right thing to do but at least now I have 2015.1.1
Thanks for the notice on this update Laura. It may just be a quirk with my Win 8.1 system, but I had to do a full system restart before Creative Cloud would recognize that I didn’t have the latest version. This might help someone else….
Is this a fix for mobile app that was not working?? Adobe said it would be fixed in the next update. I need the mobile to work and don’t want to upgrade again and have to go back to the previous version again
Any help appreciated.
Larry Selman
Larry, while I’m not familiar with the issue, Sunny in a comment above says that it does work – I would suggest reading her comment.
Lightroom does nothing when i ask it to check for updates. I am Unable to load my Adobe Cloud app from the finder . Nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?
I don’t know why this would be the case, Allan. You can post on lightroomforums.net for ideas, or you can download the update directly from this site (scroll down on the page). Double-click on the downloaded file to run it.
How do I get the update form 5 to 6 with having to be part of Creative Cloud ?
Here’s an article on where to find the Lightroom 6 upgrade, Samuel. I don’t know if it is the same in Australia, though.
A couple of questions. I have a stand along LR6 purchased as a CD. When I went to upgrade the creative cloud window appears in the wrong language. I upgrade to 6.1.1 but it still appears in About LR as 6.1 not 6.1.1. So I don’t know if update went through. Also on LR header the small orange type ” lightroom mobile trial expired” still appears. No big deal but wondered.
And lastly if I change my catalog settings to auto write to xmp will that effect existing files or only future files?
Since I was getting a “server unavailable” message AGAIN from Adobe, I found this page to download the update directly without having to use CC or having LR do the update.
http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2015-updates-links-windows.html#lightroom
Hi Blaine,
If it still says 6.1, your upgrade was not successful. Try agin, or use the prodesigntools download link Doug provided.
Changing to auto-write to XMP will only write your future editing. Select all your photos and do a Ctl/Cmd-S to save past work. Keep in mind that this doesn’t save flags, collections, virtual copies, and step-by-step editing history.
Is it just me or does converting to DNG take far longer than it used to in LR4 or 5?
Upon reinstalling Lightroom 6.0 standalone (because of a PC problem, meanwhile solved) I am unable to upgrade to the standalone versions of 6.1 and 6.1.1. The “Help – update” offers me exclusively the upgrade to the CC version. What to do? Thanks for any help!
Sorry for the delay, Manuel. Unfortunately I don’t know the answer. I would post on the Adobe Lightroom forum or on lightroomforums.net.
Just finished my trial with Lightroom 5 and am now being asked if I want to purchase Lightroom 5, I would like the latest version which is Lightroom 6.1. Will it automatically give me that?
Dave
I’m surprised you were able to get a trial of Lightroom 5, Dave. If you want to purchase Lightroom 6 (rather than subscribing to CC), here is an article on how to find Lightroom 6 on the Adobe website.
Great, useful info above, but Re. LR 6.1.1 Update from LR 6. Not able to do it. Help>Updates says my LR 6 is up to date. Trying through AdobePatchInstaller I get this error
“Lightroom CC/6 update – July 2015
Update is not applicable. Error Code: U44M2P28”. How can I update my LR 6 perpetual licence? Forget how to go around the issue of bypassing the CC buy option. At present it seems there’s no option I can see on the site for updating, not from LR 6, there is one from for upgrading from LR 5, which doesn’t help. Any other way?
Thanks Joe
Hi Joe,
I’d recommend posting in the Adobe Lightroom forum or on lightroomforums.net for assistance with this, as I don’t know the answer.
Thanks. Will pursue the issue and post in what you suggested.
Can I create a new root directory for all imported photographs from within Lightroom 6.1.1 ?
Many thanks for answer!
Manuel
You can from within the import dialog, Manuel, but it’s easier to go out to Mac Finder or Windows Explorer/My Computer and create it from there.
