To update, if you are a Creative Cloud subscriber, use your Creative Cloud app. If it doesn’t indicate there is an update, try signing out and signing back in again. For stand-alone owners, in Lightroom when it prompts you to update, click to download the file, and then double-click to run it. As with all updates, it’s a good idea to backup your Lightroom catalog first.
Alternatively if you own the standalone version, you can download the update directly:

Hi, Laura. On my Mac, the Creative Cloud app (in the menu bar) says LR is up to date. I opened LR, and the “About Lightroom” shows that it is 5.7. I selected Check for Updates, and it reported that I have the latest version.
So, I’m not sure why the CC app or LR isn’t seeing that an update is available.
Hi David,
I have updated the post to also include direct download links.
Hi, Laura. Thanks, but that is a link to the standalone version. I don’t know if you recall, but when LR recently went from 5.6.x to 5.7, my Mac CC LR app (pull-down menu) did not show that there was an update. Even in CC LR under Check for Updates, it said that it was “up to date” (which it wasn’t, because it was v5.6).
I downloaded the standalone version of LR 5.7. BIG mistake! That will not update the CC version, and it led to problems.
The only thing that worked before and it worked again tonight in order to update the CC version was to sign out of Adobe CC, then sign in again. It reinstalled CC LR, and this time it installed 5.7.1.
It’s wonderful that you send us these update notices (as well as all of your great tips!). Perhaps the next time, you may also want to include a note that if the CC app and CC LR don’t show that the update is available, simply signing out and back into CC should solve the issue.
Thanks again so much for your help.
David
We upgraded one of our MacBook Pros (running Mavericks) to Lightroom 5.7 and observed significant performance issues with respect to speed and responsiveness. The spot healing tool in particular is very slow. I have some CPU and memory monitoring software and you can watch the RAM get sucked away as Lightroom is being used. We eventually have to reboot the computer to get back some of the RAM from Lightrooms prevalent memory leaks (typically for most Adobe software).
Do you know if the 5.7.1 update addresses any of the performance issues or is it just to for new cameras support and lens profiles?
Thanks,
Charlie
I don’t believe so, Charlie. You may want to post on lightroomforums.net for troubleshooting assistance.
I noticed the same all around sluggishness with 5.7 too – especially with spot heals and adjustment brushes.. Actually it kind of started with 5.6 too, IIRC.
I tested a bunch of spot heals after installing 5.7.1 then switching to different modules and tools, back into the same spot heals, etc… So far, it does seem to be quite a bit snappier! All around snappier.
So I’d say, give it a try. Of course, YMMV.
Thanks, Laura!
I had the same problem as David. All is well now!
hi Laura .. purchased lightroom 5 a year ago and always crashes now and then.
doesn’t matter what upgrade 5.4 5.5 5.6 every time. My computer is pro built from
the ground up. best of everything .. ram ..motherboard.. video graphics power supply
ect…But when app crash icon appears on the screen nothing happens to the performance
from what I can see. why are so many thousands of us getting crashes with this lightroom
program. I’m not on line with this computer. and never will .. just built for photography only.
what does one do .. disable windows warning pop up signs ! or do we just stay frustrated
with lightroom engineers about all these BUG issues. And why do the engineers always say
this is the Final Release. They say that about every update. whats that about? Now I see again 5.7
now there Final release….am I and thousands of others customers missing something here?
Iv heard other customers problems that are sever. hope you could enlighten us customers.
thank you Laura cheers Mike.
For troubleshooting advice on this, Mike, I’d suggest posting on lightroomforums.net.
Ms Shoe,
I have Lightroom 5.7 and after I upgraded to High Sierra, started experiencing intermittent closing when operating Lightroom. Will updating to LR 5.7.1 do any good? What about upgrading to a disk version of LR 6 (I don’t want to be trapped into a life long commitment to Adobe)? I have read some frightening reviews about installing 6.0 and incompatibility with High Sierra that would be well beyond my limited capacity to manage. Or should I just uninstall High Sierra and go back to my earlier operating system which worked very well with my version of Lightroom?
Thanks, Ted Mikalsen
Hi Ted, do you have multiple external devices such as hard drives and/or memory cards plugged in when it crashes? Adobe listed this as a known issue with High Sierra and LR Classic and fixed it with 7.01. I can’t say for sure if it was fixed in LR 6.14, but 6.14 did come out after 7.01. You could ask on https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/categories/photoshop_family_photoshop_lightroom
The issue was definitely not fixed in 5.7.1.
Actually, Victoria Bampton advises Lightroom 6 owners to upgrade to 6.14 if they want to use High Sierra, so presumably it was fixed there.
