Several months ago Adobe announced the Photoshop Photography deal for owners of Photoshop CS3 or later, through December 31, 2013. Now for Black Friday, today through December 2, 2013, ANYONE can get a subscription for $9.99/month, with an annual plan! If you have been wanting to get Photoshop, but weren’t up for the $19.99/month regular price for just Photoshop CC, or $49.99/month for the Complete Cloud, now is the time to act!
Here’s what you get:
- Photoshop CC
- Lightroom 5
- 20GB of online storage
- Behance ProSite
- Access to training resources on Creative Cloud Learn
- Ongoing updates and upgrades
I think this is a great value. I know some folks don’t like the subscription model, in which you lose access to the software when you stop subscribing (though not your files), but this is the only way to purchase new versions of Photoshop. At $9.99/month, it ends up being cheaper than the old stand-alone perpetual license software, even if you didn’t upgrade with every cycle.

Not sure? You can get a trial version of the Creative Cloud, and play with it for the next 10 days.
Note that contrary to rumors, the software runs from your computer, not from the cloud; your files do not need to be stored in the cloud; and you do not need to be online to use Photoshop and Lightroom. (You must be online periodically — I believe once every 180 days — for verification purposes.)
UPDATE: Here’s a good Q&A on Photoshop CC from Scott Kelby.

Just tried to get it and Adobe Customer service says you still need a previous commercial version to get it. :(
Sigh … you would think they would be up-to-speed. You can order it online: https://creative.adobe.com/plans/offer/photoshop+lightroom?sdid=KIHZN
Hopefully they’ll be more up to speed in a couple of days or more closer to the deadline, because going through customer service is the only way I can change my subscription.
If I have PS6, and LR 4, and subscribe to this for a year, decide I don’t want to continue with the subscription, can I transfer files to my old LR4, or PS6? Would I still have access to LR5?
I had the Photoshop single app subscription and a Lightroom 3 version (purchased two years ago). Had a chat with the helpdesk and they’ve cancelled my single app subscription (without charge) and had me upgraded to the photography program. So now I have Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 for less. Took me 30 minutes, chat included. Think they’re up to speed :-)
If Adobe would commit to the $9.99 price beyond the first 12 months of subscription, this would be an excellent deal. I very nearly signed up. My understanding is that this price is guaranteed for people who already have CS3 or higher but not for people who don’t already have CS3.
The commitment after 12 months is what scares me as well. Definitely can stomach spending $9.99 but $19.99 seems steep for what I need.
Adobe has stated that for those that sign up during this deal, “$9.99 is the ongoing price. The price may go up some time in the future to account for things like inflation.”
It’s a great deal… but as far as I can read in terms and conditions (http://www.adobe.com/store/en_us/popup/offer/ccm_photoshop_app_offer.html) the price will go up to the regular price which will be valid in 2014. So from my point of view it’s a good promo for one year ;-)
“Renewal
After the first 12 months, we will automatically renew your contract based on the current price of the offering.”
Done! ;)
..of course i learned about that from your blog Laura, thanks!!
Does the $9.99/mo cost stand after the first year or does it revert to $19.99 after one year. This would determine whether or not I would go for it. Thanks Laura, Glenn

This deal is for ANYONE. You dont need to be a previous customer. Just signed up for this today. These software are still too expensive. “Renting” was a much better option for me. #accentweb
Having a subscription model is fine and some people like this but removing the perpetual license and trying to force people to subscribe is arrogant.I will stick to CS6 until it stops working..
