Victoria Bampton, a.k.a. The Lightroom Queen, has just recently released her Missing FAQ book updated for Lightroom 3. She is an administrator and Lightroom Guru on lightroomforums.net, and is one of the most knowledgeable Lightroom users and troubleshooters I know — if I don’t know the answer to a question myself, I often turn to Victoria or this forum.
As a forum moderator, Victoria understands the questions and issues users face. In this well organized and thorough 490 page book, she explains Lightroom concepts, tools and issues in an easy-to-follow question and answer format. It is written so that someone can read it cover to cover, but it is most-used as a reference book, as questions and issues arise. As this reference book, it is excellent, well worth the price, and I am happy to have it on my virtual bookshelf. I find that no matter how much I know about Lightroom, there is always more to know, and The Missing FAQ has definitely filled in gaps for me.
In my opinion this book is appropriate for users who have already gotten a decent start to Lightroom. It is both too detailed and not detailed enough for absolute beginners to Lightroom who are looking for click-by-click instructions, tons of screenshots and a focus on just the essentials. But once you get on your feet, do check out this guide. It is available as both an e-book and a paperback. Go to www.lightroomqueen.com to see the table of contents, download sample sections, and order the book.
The new PDF version for LR 4 is downloadable at a discount price for those who bought the Lr 3 version. I agree that it’s a great resource, although not for beginners.
