Tonight Adobe released Lightroom Classic (CC*) 8.2.1, cloud-based Lightroom (CC*) 2.2.1, and iOS and Android 4.2.1 with support for new cameras and with one bug fix. There are no new features in these small “double-dot” releases.
Raw files from the following new cameras are now supported (i.e. can now be imported):
- Canon EOS RP
- Panasonic LUMIX DC-FZ1000M2 (DC-FZ10002)
- Panasonic LUMIX DC-S1
- Panasonic LUMIX DC-S1R
- Panasonic LUMIX DC-ZS80 (DC-TZ95, DC-TZ96, DC-TZ97)
- Sony A6400 (ILCE-6400)
Click here to see a list of all cameras supported in each version of Lightroom (and Camera Raw).
Adobe tonight also released Adobe Camera Raw 11.2.1, with the same new camera support, and also with one bug fix that affects some Lightroom users who also use Photoshop: if you store your photos on a NAS (network attached storage), be sure to update Adobe Camera Raw (via the Creative Cloud app) to receive a fix for the bug where you were unable to open files from Lightroom to Photoshop using Edit In…Photoshop.
* Note that in the Lightroom applications names, I have started putting CC in parenthesis because even though within the applications themselves CC is still in the names, Adobe on its website has started removing CC from the names – so the feature-packed Lightroom Classic CC application is becoming “Lightroom Classic” and the new cloud-based simplified Lightroom CC application is becoming “Lightroom” – yes, that’s right, “Lightroom”. I’ll have more to say about this in another article soon – watch for it, as these changes will impact you.
I recently went to my Library and had a pop up telling me my Library needed to be updated for the recent updates to the program. I had been out of town for over 5 weeks. I had lots of photos to download, so I clicked the button to upgrade. Well, all of my prior photos were now missing. I went looking for the backups, but have been unsuccessful so far. Has anyone else experienced this? And what am I missing?
I’m sorry for the delay, Darlene. This means that you are not in your master catalog – your new version of Lightroom should have found it and made a copy to upgrade to the new version, but it didn’t. Go back to your old version of LR, go to Edit (PC) or Lightroom (Mac) > Catalog Settings and make a note of where your catalog is and what the file name is. Then open the new version of LR, go to File>Open, and navigate to and open the file you wrote down. Lightroom will tell you that it needs to upgrade the catalog – do this.
If you don’t have the old version: If you haven’t moved your catalog, it is in Pictures>Lightroom. You’re looking for your most recent .lrcat file (that is larger than 10 MB, since a catalog with no photos is less than this), and that is not in your Backups folder.
Hi Laura, no problem with the delay. I appreciate your taking time from your busy schedule to answer me. I did a lot of things trying to find my original catalog before today, so I probably made some errors that are irrevocable. I did check my LR catalogs and had previously done a search for the .lrcat files. I had several (some the result of frantic efforts to find the original). Three had more than the 10 MB you mentioned. One was the catalog I created in the new LR version, solely so I could import the photos from our 5 1/2 week trip. I was desperate to see them on the big screen and do some edits. I found one catalog that had some of my photos from 2015 listed, but the ‘photos’ were not showing up. I know they are no longer on my hard drive, but on an external drive, so the question marks by the dates did not bother me. But I still should have been able to view the photos. I could find zero backups and I have backed up many times and never erased one of them as far as I know. I had a backup file, but only for the backup I did on my ‘new library’. I think I will just start from scratch and realize I have lost all of the work I did before. I am not happy about that, but see no alternative. Thanks for your excellent suggestions. I recommend you to anyone who is starting to use Lightroom.
I have lightroom classic 6.14 and want to update to 8.2, but when I check for update it tells me I have the most current version.
How can I get 8.2?
Thanks,
Dennis
Hi Dennis, you’ll have to subscribe to the Creative Cloud Photography plan, install Lightroom Classic and let it upgrade your LR 6 catalog. Here’s a video tutorial on how to do this upgrade: https://laurashoe.com/2018/12/10/how-to-upgrade-to-lightroom-classic-cc-from-lightroom-6-and-earlier-versions/
