In this video tutorial for Lightroom Classic, as well as for Lightroom 4, 5 and 6, I show you how to shift a color to another, and how to completely replace it. We’ll use the HSL panel, and then a few powerful options in the adjustment brush. This video does assume basic experience with the adjustment brush.
For best quality, after hitting Play click on the sprocket wheel in the bottom right and choose 1080/HD.
A note for advanced users – read after watching the video: After I show you how to replace the green with pink and then blue, I explain that the Saturation slider in the adjustment brush can’t be used to further intensify the blue. Some viewers have asked if I can right-click on the adjustment pin, choose Duplicate Adjustment, and then increase saturation in the duplicate, to +100, for example. This +100 however just offsets the -100 saturation of the underlying adjustment, leaving saturation at 0, and the birdhouse once again has a green base. I also did think of using the Blue saturation slider in the HSL panel to intensify the blue – but it doesn’t work because HSL can’t see or affect a Color adjustment!

As always, clear and concise. I must be improving because I could anticipate where you were heading with the brush/desaturation technique!
After the desaturation, If you right click on the button, you have the option to duplicate the brush mask. On that layer you can both add color and use the saturation slider to effect.
Good point, Bob – but you’ll find that the saturation slider won’t work as you expect – positive sat will just undo the negative sat of the underlying adjustment, turning the birdhouse back to having a green base.
