Lightroom 6.6.1 and CC 2015.6.1 were released this morning with support for the new Fujifilm X-T2 camera, and high-priority bug fixes, including a fix for the memory-leak performance issue introduced in the last update. This is a free update to Lightroom 6 and CC.
How to Update
If Lightroom doesn’t prompt you to update, go to Help>Updates. Creative Cloud subscribers can also use their Creative Cloud app – go to the Apps tab and click on Update next to Lightroom CC. If you are reading this on the release date (July 26) and the updates aren’t yet available, you can download the file directly and then double-click on it to run it. Download here: Mac Windows, then double-click on the file to run the update.
It’s always a good idea to back up your Lightroom catalog before updating. If Lightroom doesn’t prompt you to back up when you close it, then go to Edit (PC) or Lightroom (Mac) > Catalog Settings, and on the General tab set Back Up to “When Lightroom next exits”, and then close Catalog Settings and Lightroom.
If you experience problems with this release, or bugs anytime, you can report them to Adobe here.
Bugs Fixed
Performance
- Lightroom would become slow due to high memory usage after navigating through images in Develop
- When printer profiles in the Print module on Mac, prints were dark and colors were incorrect
Plugin Support
- Crashes with the SmugMug publish services plugin
Import
- Import freezes and causes memory error
- Import Destination folder selection gets reset after every import rather than remembering previous selection (Correction – it looks like this isn’t fixed, at least on Mac.)
- Uncompressed DNGs converted from Fuji X-E2 RAF were being corrupted
Develop
- The Guided Upright tool would crash if you clicked instead of dragged
- Shift-T no longer worked for the brush in the graduated and radial filter tools

- Error on merging 10+ images
- Prevented from creating a panorama from two HDR DNG source images.
MacOS
- Native Mac OS full-screen support has been restored
- Issues with modal dialog behavior fixed
Video Support
- Error message was displayed, “Direct 2D is not installed” even if the OGL was available
Lightroom Mobile/Web Sync
- Unnecessary resync of collections to Lightroom mobile after an update.
That’s not the problem I’ve been having. Mine is every time I try and update it basically crashes and says it can’t because of an error. I’ve had to go through Adobe and talk and get connected with a higher tech support that had a go round after hour or more on the phone being transferred and jerked around. But the top tech finally got it fixed. The last time about 3 weeks ago I got another tech with a second language of English and he jerked me around, didn’t get it fixed as I told him had been done before and hung up on me after telling me to get an it person to fix my computer.
Can you provide the URL weblink where I can download Lightroom 6.6.1? I have installed Lightroom 6.x. I used to have CC installed on my Mac OS X computer, but not more because of the underside subscription offering. Accordingly, when I attempt a Lightroom 6.x update via Help>Updates it sends me to CC update management, which, of course, no longer exists.
Indeed an annoying and distracting Creative Cloud bug.
It’s in the article, Pete, in the How to Update section.
Thanks Laura. Your weblink slipped past my eye during my first reading; of your much appreciated article.
You’re welcome, Pete. I totally understand – I miss things all the time! :-)
For VERY many users, the link doesn’t resolve. There’s an error in their server which they refuse to acknowledge. Could you kindly upload it to a secondary server for us, please, as the @$$hats at Adobe Chat support are so dumb it’s hard to even speak to them.
I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing issues with it, Alf-Einar. Unfortunately though I can’t use my server for this.
I think that I had 90% of these issues. Thank you for the head’s up!!!!!
You’re welcome, Craig!
Freezing when importing was what I was having most of the time. Thank you for the e-mail, Laura.
Laura, Just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you keeping us updated and providing excellent LR training. I use LR every day and your input has increased my productivity and ability so much. Thank you!

Thanks so much for your note, Susan – you’re welcome, and I’m glad you are enjoying the training and news!
Since LR refuses to download updates for me, I appreciate your always posting the download link to the update.
Up to the minute as always.
Thanks
You’re welcome, Doug!
When I clicked on the windows link it gave me a winrar or whatever isn’t free. How can I get the download if cloud that I’m paying for doesn’t do it.
It gives me a standard zip file, G, which shouldn’t require any software other than Windows Explorer. I’m not a Windows expert, so I’m afraid I can’t advise you further. Perhaps someone else will chime in.
I had the same problem and ended up just going into LR and then Help>Updates. Then it downloaded fine. Hope this helps!
Yes, it worked this time thank you. I’ve tried that route in the past many times and I got an error and it never updated. I guess they fixed more than a few bugs.
There is also 7Zip or WInZip. Check CNET.com downloads for other free ZIP file uncompression programs
I tried updating with the link and got an error message that said “update failed – updates could not be applied”. Update is also not showing up in my Creative Cloud apps dropdown menu, for neither Lightroom 6.6.1 nor CC 2015.6.1. The Lightroom app claims to be up to date. This has happened to me before where Lightroom app listed as being up to date when more than one update had passed. I had to go to an Adobe tech who puzzled through the problem directly on my computer which took a very long time to do.
Any ideas on how I should proceed?
Mine has done that on numerous times and I’ve had to do the same thing as you have. Yesterday I opened LR, Help, Upgrades and it worked.
My CC apps dropdown menu still claims he LR is updated, but I’m still on 6.4. LR 6.5 wasn’t update either and I didn’t get a notification that it was available.
I checked again today and still no success.
Need advice.
Found that uninstalling Lightroom from the CC menu, then re-installing fixed it.
2 days after the release and I’m still not seeing the update in CC, despite repeatedly checking. Anyone else experiencing the same?
Yes, tried again today to install via the link supplied here. I got an error message that It could not be installed “due to temporary unavailability”. Update is also still not showing up in my CC apps dropdown menus.
I found that uninstalling then re-installing LR did the trick.
I called Adobe support. Re-installing didn’t work even with the tech.
After 1-2 hours of the taking over the computer, it finally go resolved. Had to install via root. Turned out that the permissions (Mac) had not been set in the Adobe files to allow the updates. Have no idea why. One of those mysterious, “how did that happen” events.
For some reason, also, it was only set that way for LR not Photoshop.
Glad to hear you got it resolved.
I have on old computer and I have been using LR 6 for a while, if I install LR 6.6.1 would it be faster or slower on my PC?
I can’t say, Shimbaw. If it ends up being slower you can revert back. (Google “how to revert to earlier version of Lightroom”.)
