Upright is a new automatic feature for straightening photos and correcting perspective. In the video below I show you how to use Upright and how it interacts with the Crop tool. When you do what you’re describing as a ‘perfect correction’, so that the vertical sides are parallel, you’re making the composition worse! Our brains expect to see convergence for objects above eye level. By making the lines truly parallel, our brains compensate and tell us that the actual object must have been wider at the top, and so you perceive the buildings as top-heavy. This has been known since ancient times and is reflected in the various styles of pillars in Greece, Rome and Crete.
Agreed, Graham — I didn’t know how our brains compensate, so thank you!) I believe this is why the Auto correction doesn’t correct all the way to parallel.
