Because Lightroom 4 has different Basic Panel controls than Lightroom 3, if you have created presets in Lightroom 3 that use Basic panel controls, you may be finding that they don’t look as expected now that you are using them in Lightroom 4. Sharad Mangalick, one of the Adobe product managers for Lightroom, has written a post on how to update your presets for Lightroom 4, over on the Lightroom Journal. By the way, this is an excellent blog to follow to keep up on Lightroom bug fixes, new releases, and more.
More Photoshop CS6 Beta ResourcesIn my last post, I presented a video of a few of my favorite CS6 Beta features so far. Since I need to focus on my upcoming creativeLIVE Lightroom workshop (watch it free next week online!) and on my next video series, Lightroom’s Output Modules, rather than produce a whole series of “What’s new in Photoshop CS6 Beta” videos, I thought I would point you to some resources that others have put together: Julianne Kost’s 6 Favorite Features Russell Brown’s 6 Favorite Features Content Aware Technology Photoshop Cafe TV National Association of Photoshop Professionals CS6 Beta Learning Center Lynda.com CS6 Beta Training I have not watched all these, and I am sure there are many more good ones out there [...more] |
Adobe Photoshop Touch Video DemonstrationHere’s a great video by Terry White demonstrating the new Adobe Photoshop Touch app for iPad and Android devices. It really is Photoshop — though not with complete functionality, of course. But if you are a Photoshop user, you will be happy to see layers, blending modes, refine edge, and more. I love how you can start a project on the iPad, then upload it to the Cloud and immediately access it from Photoshop on your desktop computer to finish it. If you are not a Photoshop user, I suspect you will face a bit of Photoshop’s learning curve. Unfortunately I haven’t had a chance to try it myself to see how much. If you have experience with the app, [...more] |

To DNG or Not to DNGIn Lightroom’s Import dialog (and in the Library module), you are given the choice to convert your camera manufacturer-proprietary raw files into Adobe’s raw file format, DNG. I have gone back and forth on recommending conversion to my students, and in my own workflow — not because I don’t trust Adobe’s conversion, but because I just have never seen it as mission-critical. While I could see some advantages, they just haven’t been that compelling to me, and converting to DNG does make the Import process take a lot longer. (At this point I do convert, but I don’t feel strongly about it.) Though still not mission-critical, Lightroom 4 is introducing some new advantages, to make Lightroom performance faster with [...more] |
For 2012, Resolve to Follow the Lightroom Gurus on Twitter2012 has started out pretty busy for me, so I haven’t had time yet to write any new tutorials, but I wanted to pass along this great list of Lightroom experts to follow on Twitter from pixiq.com. What — you’re not on Twitter? Frankly, I myself am only on Twitter to follow and participate in the Lightroom community. It’s a great way to find out about new tutorials and other resources, participate in conversations, etc. And the Lightroom Twitter community is refreshingly friendly and supportive! Follow everyone on the list, but follow me first! @Lightroom_Laura |
Book Review: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3: The Missing FAQVictoria Bampton, a.k.a. The Lightroom Queen, has just recently released her Missing FAQ book updated for Lightroom 3. She is an administrator and Lightroom Guru on lightroomforums.net, and is one of the most knowledgeable Lightroom users and troubleshooters I know — if I don’t know the answer to a question myself, I often turn to Victoria or this forum. As a forum moderator, Victoria understands the questions and issues users face. |
Lightroom 3 ResourcesI was going to compile a list of Lightroom 3 resources for you, but there are many out there already. Click HERE for a very good one from Wade Heninger. And HERE is another by Sean McCormack at Lightroom-Blog. |
Lightroom 3 Beta Help Content AvailableIf you’re experimenting with the LR 3 Beta, you may find Adobe’s new LR3 Beta help content useful. Click here to go to a listing of content on their Phosphors blog. |
More LR3 Beta InformationHere’s a link to a write up by Victoria Bampton on what’s new in the LR3 beta. Keep in mind that this is a very early beta — some of the new features will disappear, others will be added, and you will encounter bugs (particularly known are render preview issues). At the bottom of Victoria’s post are links to many other blogs with articles on LR3. |
Check Out the ArchivesThese days I try to post regularly, but I gave up long ago on the idea of posting daily. If you check in on a day when I don’t have a new post for you, take the opportunity to go back through the archives — if you haven’t been following my blog for all of the past 10 months, you may have missed some tips and tutorials that would be useful to you. Scroll down this page to the archive section. Once you enter the archives and click on an article title, you can just hit the backward or forward button below the article to continue through the archives. I hope you find something worthwhile! |
